'A Friend in Need is a Friend Indeed' - Meaning and Expansion - Important India

    • We have all heard the old saying “a friend is need is a friend indeed“. We need true friends in our life. A real or true friend is always willing to help us when we need them. At the same time, it is our responsibility to remain helpful towards our friends.
In life, there are occasions when we are happy, contented and prosperous. In such times we are given to understand that we have myriads of friends. Most of us get into believing that all those who enjoy our good times with us are our friends. However, when sad occasions arrive at our doorsteps, all these friends disappear and just one or two remain at our side.

This proverb means that ‘a friend who helps his friend in need is a real friend’. the proverb could be taken to mean that ‘friends rely on each other’.

If someone is our friend, we should be glad to help them when they need us. And we can assume that this sentiment is reciprocal. That is what true friendship is about.

A trustworthy friend is someone you can count on no matter what. They are someone you can call in the middle of the night and vent to, or just talk. They are someone who, if they say they are going to do something, they do it and don't bail out. Good friends are people with whom you can talk to and trust with your secrets. You can tell a friend anything and know they won't open their mouth just for the fun of it because they like and respect you too much to hurt you. If you have something you feel like you can’t tell anyone about, they are the friends you can tell. A good friend is someone who when you tell them personal stuff you don't have to worry, you know your secret is safe. Trusted friends are those you can tell your flaws to and know your revelations are safe. Sometimes after you tell people certain information you think: “What in the world was I thinking?” but a trustworthy person won't ever make you feel like that.

      Expansion

Need of a true friend: We cannot live alone in society. We need friends for company and conference. A man can receive from his friends what he cannot get from his own people and his family members.

True friendship is a divine quality. To get a true friend is rare achievement now a days. Someone is lucky if he gets a true friend.

A true friend is considered the most valuable asset that a person can possess.

In good times, everybody behaves as if they are our friend. The right occasion to test the friendship of a person is at the time of need.

The friend who is true will not always praise no matter what we do. He will also point out the wrong being done and try to convince that it is wrong and not just call all that is being done right just because he wants to remain in the good books.

A true friend realizes your need and comes forward to help you voluntarily without any hope of getting back anything in return from you. Such friends are of course very rare, but they are there.

Matter of Pride: Friendship with such person in really a matter of pride.

There are many instances of such friendship in stories, legends and history.
A friend needs to be a fair person. He also needs to be caring and loving. They need to be good listeners and positive people. Without these characteristics, you won’t feel that you have a good friendship. A friend should be someone that can comfort you when you are in need of a shoulder. A good friend needs to be honest with you. He needs to tell you things about you that you should improve. Not because he is picking on you, but because he cares about you. He should try to make you a better person but not change you. As a matter of fact, he shouldn’t change anyone. He should be someone who can accept different types of people as friends with good and not so good characteristics.

These people have unhesitatingly sacrificed their lives for the sake of friendship.

Therefore, we should choose good friends who are really willing to help us. We must avoid those people who come forward with selfish motives because they may put us into trouble at any time.

Megan and I are always together; no matter where we are! We go to places like the mall and movies, to the mountains and lakes! Together we go most everywhere! A few days ago we got Pose pictures together! We always go shopping together and she helps me pick out what and what not to buy! Together we are unstoppable! We also help each other with schoolwork, and family and friends problems. She helps me through my toughest times, and is there for my best times.

The choice of a true friend: Good friends are rare in the world. A man may have many friends, but it is difficult to get a true friend. There are friends who are often selfish with you. There are friends who are often indifferent to your suffering in life.

This means that a person who helps us in our times of distress is a true friend, and the correct time to put a friend to a test is, time of sorrow. In good times for happy moments, everyone poses to be close, and wants to be close.

But true friend is not like that. Selfless service is the essence of true friendship. A true friend proves him-selves by his good deeds. A true friend does not have any selfish motive. He is prepared to do anything for the sake of friendship.

By nature Anna is communicative and outgoing and the thing she likes best is being the centre of attention. Her biggest dream is to become a singer and I truly believe that one day she’ll make her wish come true. Anna has won many prizes and has taken part in many concerts, because she sings really incredibly.

He can even sacrifice his life to save the life of his friend. Such a friend is called a true friend.

The abuse of friendship: There are some selfish people who always try to abuse friendship with a selfish motive.

Then try to exploit their friendship and gain something to serve their selfish interest.
As a normal human being, however, Anna also has her shortcomings. She never goes on time to her dates. Sometimes she is absent-minded and inconsiderate and that makes people think she never takes things seriously. But this is not true. She has a strong sense of responsibility and you can always rely on her.

They establish friendship with this motive and leave you when their goal is achieved. They are false friends. We should always be aware of such friends and try to avoid them as far as practicable.

Adversity is the test of a true friend.

He who stands by us in our good and bad times is a true friend indeed.
Friend is a person who is always with you and for you, whether it be in times of happiness or times of distress. It is an old adage that truly and correctly describes a friend - "a friend in need is a friend indeed".

We should always be on search for good friends. A good friend always remains accessible even during adverse times. With the help of friends, a person can overcome the troubles of difficult times. Life becomes easier for people who are blessed with true friends.
These are not true friends; they are just companions, who give company for fun. However, those who sit and share the moments of sorrow are the true friends.

What we learn from this proverb?

      • Reliance: knowing we can rely on our friends at the times of need is a great feeling.
      • Kindness: kindness between friends is a virtue.
      • True friendship: true friendship is one of the best things in life.
      • Generosity: we should be helpful and generous to our friends.
      • Gratitude: we should be grateful to our friends.
      • Good times: we should also be there to spend good times with our friends.
      • Support: as well as accepting their help, we should support them and have fun with them.

Conclusion: Friendship is better than fame in life.

To be a real friend or to get a real friend in life is considered better and nobler than fame.
Friends play an important role in a person's life. They encourage when one is sad, they entertain when one is lonesome, and they listen when one has problems. There are varieties of friends: co-workers, social workers, schoolmates, and much more. Each type of friends is helpful in one way or the other. Co-workers could help solve problems and stress gain in the workplace. Friends from the community widen one's prospective by introducing new people from different areas. Friends that grew up with would share the happiness and sadness one might has. However, friends that grew up with might not always be the best friends because they could faking it or been concealing some secrets. So, it is very important for one to recognize all the friends s/he has because good friends are hard to find. Good friends should not be measured only base on the time spent together. With good friends, one is able to have a more meaningful life. It is very difficult to have a definition of a good friend for everyone to agree upon. Since everyone has different personalities, friends one looks for could be very different. Nonetheless, there are some common characteristics shared among most of the definitions. The three main qualities that define a good friend are loyal, understanding, and encouraging.

Hence, it is true that “a friend in need is a friend indeed”.
