    • Purpose of the Competition:
      To raise awareness of the Korean island of Dokdo and the history surrounding it. Essay Topic:
      Research and write an unbiased paper about the history of the Dokdo Island.

      Dokdo and South Korean National Identity. Bringing the Dokdo/Takeshima dispute to the ICJ will need a change of national identity narrative in South Korea.

      Middle School (Grade 5 - 8), High School (Grade 9 - 12), College. Adult

      ▶ Essay Rules: Only one essay entry per student. Students must write their essay in one language: Either Korean or English.

      Dokdo Essay Topics · Dokdo-Takeshima Island Dispute. Dokdo Island, or Takeshima, has been a long standing territorial dispute between Korea and Japan.

      => English:
      - Essays must not exceed 5 (Five) pages in length (Letter Size , Margins Normal). Excluding bibliography.
      - Essays must be written in Times New Roman font and should be sized 12 (Twelve).
      - Only single spacing (No double spacing, triple spacing, etc…).
      - Must submit a MLA formatted bibliography along with your essay.
      - Please try to use primary sources over other source materials.
      - Please note to follow these guidelines and rules otherwise your essay will not be entered.

      1. Historical understanding of Dokdo : 30%
      2. What is the important point of Dokdo : 25%
      3. Historical matters research of Dokdo : 20%
      4. The conclusion of Dokdo essay : 15%
      5. Writing style & quality : 10%

      • This competition is open to all residents in the world regardless of ethnic background.
      • Winners will be announced at a later date and an awards ceremony will follow.
      • All essay competition participants will receive gifts! [1]
      • The 1st place award winners of each category MUST read his or her ENTIRE essay during the Award Ceremony.
      • Winners must attend the award ceremony. Overseas winners are exempt from attending, but are required to submit a video.
