Batangas is a first class province of the Philippines located on the southwestern part of Luzon in the CALABARZON region.
Its capital is Batangas City and it is bordered by the provinces of Cavite and Laguna to the north and Quezon to the east.
A couple of years ago I decided to change directions in my career. I had studied Massage Therapy and after working in the field for just under a year, I couldn’t imagine myself in that profession long-term. I quit my job on a whim, moved to a different province and started studying another degree, this one in Media and Communications. I began to follow another trail on the path of my destiny
Across the Verde Island Passages to the south is the island of Mindoro and to the west lies the South China Sea. Poetically, Batangas is often referred to by its ancient name Kumintang.
Batangas is one of the most popular tourist destinations near Metro Manila.
The province has many beaches and is famous for excellent diving spots including Anilao in Mabini, Sombrero Island in Tingloy, Ligpo Island in Bauan, these areas more popularly known as Anilao.
Your sailboat can get caught in stormy seas.
It can get of course or stranded at an island for repairs. Sometimes the waves get really big and it’s hard to stomach the change of pace. During the storms and detours it is essential to be reminded of the sailboat’s destination—forward
Matabungkay in Lian, Punta Fuego in Nasugbu, Calatagan and Laiya in San Juan. Batangas is also where Taal Volcano, one of the Decade Volcanoes is located. It is also where the Taal Heritage town lies, a small picturesque town that has ancestral houses and structures dating back to the 19th century.
The third key choice.
It’s impossible to control the winds and the waves but it is possible to choose the days to sail, where to sail and whom to sail with. Life is full of choices at every turn and bend and all these twists and turns eventually create a path. It is empowering to understand the influence that choice has in routing and mapping out destiny
. The freedom to choose is also a gift but with it comes responsibility.
The first recorded name of the Province was Kumintang, after the Datu who inherited the dominion from Datu Balensusa. Its centre, the present day Balayan, was the most progressive town of the Province and the traditional centre of governance.
Thirdly, I would advise you to look into application vouchers and SAT/ACT vouchers. I applied for 4 schools and luckily did not have to pay for any of the applications. Many high schools have programs that will provide students with vouchers to cover applications cost.
Later, as the eruption of the Taal Volcano destroyed a significant portion of the town, the provincial centre was transferred to Taal, which was then called Bonbon and the name of the province was changed after that of the town.
The scientific wonders which we see today around us, such as mobile phones, computers, LED light etc. all began with a dream , a dream to make the world a better place. It is the fruit of our hard-work and the power of our dreams which leads us to success. Even after failing ten-thousand times Edison didn't stop chasing his dreams. He is quoted as saying, " If I fail ten-thousand times then I've learnt ten-thousand ways in which things won't work". Today his invention of the filament lamp diminishes darkness from a large part of the globe.
The term batangan means a raft, the people used so that they could fish in the nearby Taal Lake. It also meant the numerous logs found in the Calumpang River, the body of water that runs through the northeastern portion of the town and assumes the shape of a tuning fork.
This time two years ago, I found myself dreaming big and researching a variety of big names schools to apply to. Being a first generation college student, I wish I had advice and tips for applying to colleges.
Batangas is a combination of plains and mountains, including the world’s smallest volcano, Mt. Taal, with an elevation of 600 meters, located in the middle of the Taal Lake.
Batangas also has many islands, including Tingloy, Verde Island(Isla Verde), Fortune Island of Nasugbu.
Although attached to the big Island of Luzon, Batangas boasts of flora and fauna that is distinctively theirs.
It was told that once in a poor remote village, there was a school having very few students because most of the school-age children had to help their parents to make a living. One day, the only school teacher in the school taught composition to his pupils. Having explained all the rules and guidance, he assigned his students to write an essay.
The local tree malabayabas is endemic to the province alone while the endangered flying fox thrives there without fear. Batangas is also home to the kabag, one of the world’s smallest fruit bat. In the Municipality of Nasugbu, wild deers are still inhabiting the remote areas of Baranggay Looc.
Second, apply to at least one safe school. Apply to a school that has average qualification that you exceed by far. Also, apply to a school that you would easily be able to afford such as local college. In case money falls through or you do not get into your dream school or first choice, you will be able to still attend college. If you do not get into your first choice you can always transfer schools. Who knows, you may actually fall in love with your safe school and not want to leave.
But although Batangas has these land flying mammals, marine wildlife remains to be the province’s crowning glory. In fact, in the second half of 2006, scientists from the United States discovered that the Sulu-Sulawesi Triangle has its centre at the Isla Verde Passage, a part of the province.
Fourth, have a stranger critique your essay. Give your personal statement or application essays to a counselor or English teacher that does not know you well to critique. They can provide you with an honest and helpful critique. They also can you give a non-biased opinion on your writing.
According to this study, made by the American Marine Biologist Dr. Kent Carpentier, Batangas Seas host more than half of the world’s species of coral reefs. It is also home to dolphins and once in a while, a passage of the world’s biggest fish the whale shark or the butanding, as the locals call it.
Batangas also has other industries that makes it famous not only in the country but also in the world.
More than anything else, Batangas is known for its fan knife, called balisong by the natives.
I have a dream - that no child, woman or man will go to bed hungry or without heat in this city; that they have a bed to sleep in! I have a dream that our city streets will be clean and shine with pride. I have a dream that while we struggle for better grades, a new job, a better life, that we all remember to treat each other with courtesy, kindness and civility, if not with love. It’s called respect - R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
This industry has become so famous that an urban legend exists about every Batangueño carrying a balisong everywhere they go. This is also the reason why most Filipinos would warn never to mess with a Batangueño.
My first piece of advice I would give you is to dare to dream. Apply to your dream school, even if acceptance does not seem unattainable. If it is too pricey or your standardized test scores fall slightly below the university’s average, apply. You will never know if you do not try. Who know’s maybe you will run into scholarship money or your essay and amazing GPA might lead the admission officers to overlook your shortcoming in the standardized testing.
Pineapples are also common in the province. Aside from the fruit, the leaves are also useful that it becomes an industry of its own. In the Municipality of Taal, pineapple leaves are being processed to be a kind of cloth known as the gusi.
The first step is to know thyself, a precept that has been a standard throughout the ages from the Neolithic pagan to the modern Christian but do we really understand what this means? If all I know about myself is that I am brunette, born in April and my favorite number is seven, I'm in serious trouble! The fact that I have qualities and talents, acknowledged by family and friends, yet I remain oblivious, needs revision. We are mysterious beings, as much to ourselves, as to others.
This is further processed to become the Barong Tagalog, the National Costume of the Philippines. In fact, the Barong Tagalog that was used by the heads of states in the last Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation in 1995 was from Batangas.
Futurism is defined in Webster’s Dictionary as “a modern aesthetic movement marked by complete departure from tradition”. A person with interesting and different ideas is a futurist, many people, many artists have lifestyles that could be classified as futuristic, and one can live in state of futurity, always about to be. Imagine the possibilities!
Princess Diana Spencer was also known to possess a scarf made of gusi.
Batangas is also known for its livestock industry. Cattle from Batangas is widely sought throughout the country. In fact, the term Bakang Batangas (Batangas Cow) is actually synonymous to the country’s best species of cattle.
The second key is letting go. In order to actually start sailing the sailboat needs to be untied from the dock. In each step that is taken there is a constant letting go of the previous steps or transactions. By walking in the present and not living in the past (whether past failures or moments of success) you are freed to walk without any weights.
Indeed, the cattle industry in Batangas is so famous, that every Saturday is an auction day in the Municipalities of San Juan, Bauan and widely-known and famous Padre Garcia every Thursday and Friday.
Being near the sea, it is only expected that fishing plays a very important part of the Batangan Economy.
Although the tuna industry in the country is mainly centered in General Santos, Batangas is also known for the smaller species of the said fish.
The history of human progress shows that behind every great revolution or innovation, has been a great dream . It is through the 'eyes of a dreamer' that men saw the horizons of the future. All men who have achieved great things have been great dreamers. We need to understand that to achieve anything we need to have faith and belief in ourselves and remember that all things are possible for those who 'believe'. If one advances confidently in the direction of one's dreams, and endeavors to live the life which one has imagined, one will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.
The locals even have their own names for the said fish. Some of them include the term, Tambakol,yellow-finned Berberabe, tambakulis, Tulingan, Bonito and another species also called Bonito but actually the Gymnosarda unicolor.
Dare to dream. August 19, 2009. I believe that the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. The following words are inspired by a bracelet that was given to me by my mother and they are offered with special care to the dancers.
There is also an important industry for the Tanigue.
Aside from the South China Sea, Taal Lake also provides a source of fresh water fishes to the country. The lake is home to Sardinella tawilis or simply tawilis, a species of freshwater sardine that is endemic to the lake.
Dreams are a fascinating thing. We all have them and we want to realize them, yet we do everything in our power to talk ourselves out of accomplishing them. We convince ourselves, "It's unattainable", "It's too big", or the infamously simplistic "I just can't do it". We focus so much of ourselves on counter acting our lives and goals that we never stop to think what would happen if we only used our power for good. Why, we would be able to move mountains and catch bullets with our teeth! When will we stop paralyzing ourselves and allow ourselves to experience the peace and comfort of acceptance. Rather we continue to play the victim or the martyr in our one-woman show. A "life happens to you" attitude keeps us stuck in our fears where we remain stagnate and rot. Whatever our reason, logic, or lack there of the self-subjugating approach gets us nowhere.
Taal Lake also provides farmed Chanos chanos or bangus. There is also a good volume of Oreochromis niloticus niloticus and Oreochromis aureus, both locally called tilapia. It is ecologically important to note that neither bangus nor tilapia are native to the lake.
Wouldn’t it be nice to just arrive and skip the stormy patches of sea? However, arriving at the point of destiny is unrealistic. It’s essential to keep track of the successes and victories along the way because a truly extraordinary person is someone who celebrates each bend and turn in the road. Someone who sees success as an end point is missing the importance of vision
along the way.
Thus they are considered invasive species to the lake.
As mentioned in the section of culture, Batangueños are indeed fond of drinking. This is of no surprise as it lies in what is called the coconut belt that is the raw material for the local liqueurs, the lambanog (with 90% proof) and the tuba (which is made of 568% alcohol and 13% sugar).
The desire to arrive is a natural human need in which everyone can relate to. Arrival meets the need of closure and security. These are valid needs (and they get met to some extent) but life is not just a straight road with one arrival point. Destiny is a journey
, not just a destination.
Sugar is also a major industry. As a matter of fact, after the Hacienda Luisita, the country’s former largest sugar producer, was broken-up for land reform, the Municipality of Nasugbu has been the home of the current largest sugar producing company, the Central Azucarera Don Pedro.
The silence was deafening. A group of 30 teens sat around tables staring at me, not a hand raised, not a word said. The question asked was, "What is your dream for the future?" After the lack of response, the follow up question was, "Who is your hero?" Nothing. Nada. No response. I was stunned. These teens were part of a youth summer jobs program, high school aged with no dreams for a better life.
This also means that Batangas is also a home for a wide industry of sweets. Rice cakes are also a strong industry.
Last May 7,2011, We, my family and my auntie and her daughter who were just here in the Philippines for a vacation went to a resort in batangas called La Virginia Hotel & Resort, it is set in 6 hectares of secluded grounds yet only 2 hours from downtown Metro Manila.
This intrinsic and fluid universe consciousness beats in the soul of each of us. At some point, during discovery of our adult selves we nullify the connection with our soul selves. Somewhere on the journey, a different kind of consciousness crept in and we allowed it to quell our dreams and vanquish our minds to live out eternity in the real world. It became time to grow up. The world, society or our families told us to take care of our responsibilities and become an adult. Playtime is over. However, for many people, this manner of thinking is inadequate. People live with burning desires, dreams, passion and hopes in spite of societal and familial dictation. The connection is still there we merely have to re-acquaint ourselves, the wild one contained inside of us must be set free.
La Virginia offers one of the largest privately-owned natural getaways in Lipa City.
The resort is located in the Batangas side ridge around the Taal Lake, it offers breathtaking views of the lake and the Taal Volcano Islands. It is completely surrounded by coconut groves and forests so that is is set in a pristine environment.
I heard someone once say that a dream is only a dream when it is beyond human capability. This very fact makes it a dream. If it’s too easy to accomplish then it’s not a dream. Dreams and destiny go hand in hand. In believing and sticking to the course of destiny you will dare
The resort boasts of five (5) world class swimming pools and a heated jacuzzi for family and personal fun. In that day also, I with my co-vacationist saw a flying 6 jets roaming around who are just from the air based near in the resort.
There is a small chapel located inside the resort as well.
At this point you may be wondering: How do I know what my destiny is? If this is your question, look inside and plot the pattern of your heart. Ask yourself, what are you passionate about? What is something that you would be willing to sacrifice for? Determine these desires and inborn strengths and then sail forward in that direction. Your destiny awaits.
The resort also offers well-appointed accomodation and picnic facilities for day trippers and extended stay visitors. Well, I will share to you the things that I experience and enjoyed on having a vacation.
On the next day, each student stood in front of the class reading his or her own writing. Most of them wanted to become teachers, farmers, or government officials, etc. The teacher, nodded his head up and down, as the sign of agreement. Then, here came his youngest student to share his dreams to the class. He was terribly-looked; thin as a needle wearing worn out school uniform.
First, The View of Taal Lake in this nature’s beauty never fails to amaze me. La Virginia Resort offers a generous view of Taal Lake. It brought serenity down to my soul. Naks. But seriously, it did. Second, The Buddha View Deck I had a couple of pictures in front of the huge Buddha statue and when I used one of the photos as my Facebook profile picture, a couple of friends thought I went to Thailand! Nah, it’s one of the best backgrounds there for photo, with family. Make sure you have a picture with the Golden Buddha as your background. Aha!
Third, The Ifugao Village, I’m Ilocana and that’s why I have close affinity to what’s there up north; not an Ifugao native though. This part of La Virginia features cottages which resembles the abode in Ifugao.
In the film, "Sneakers," which had in it such great actors like Robert Redford, James Earl Jones and Sydney Pottier, one character is asked at the end of the movie what his wish is. "For peace on earth," he says, "for peace on earth." Be the change, get involved, make a difference. Dare to dream and share those dreams with us in writing.
It’s like you’re visiting the Tam-Awan Village in Baguio City. Fourth, The Infinity Pool because it gives you a good spot for the sunset. Imagine swimming in the infinity pool while the sun sets on the horizon.
If you can imagine it, you can create it. If you can dream it, you can do it.
Then we went to the Hanging Bridge, I like bridges because it brings that certain shake on your nerves but at the same time, it challenges you to go on keep walking until you reach the other end. And last, The Tree House, See the best features of La Virginia Resort from the top of the tree house and you’ll wonder how it was landscaped to become what it is now. It was breathtaking up there. Perfect for some more picture taking.
I wasn’t able to experience the La Virginia Zipline Rides due to its expensive price and my mother wouldn’t allow me to ride without my father due to his fear and we just went their because of my auntie’s vacation here in the Philippines and lack of time because after their we went to Laguna and explore in Enchanted Kingdom and take some rides.
I am confident when I say I believe the energy of the moon affects us according to her stage of growth on the journey. Bearing in mind like the moon, we are bodies of energy in constant motion traveling through cycles, it stands to reason that to know
thyself would be an ongoing assignment. Awareness of the self inevitably teaches us that we will never truly know all the mysteries because they are in constant motion. However, it is not the act of futility it seems but an act of joy and experience. Human beings are multifaceted creatures and our reflections, in the world in which we live, abound.
