It is estimated that nearly 15% of the total population of India consists of students.

The students, therefore, constitute a great potential force capable of leading a nation to great heights of progress or abyss of decadence.
Since our country is passing through a difficult period of struggle, it is badly in need of ideal students and citizens. The nation can reach the zenith of glory if our students become ideal and participate in the task of national reconstruction. An ideal student is the spark of hope, glory and prosperity of his country. The students of today are the leaders of tomorrow. The future of the country depends upon student only. Every students should, therefore, try to become an ideal student. An ideal student is ideal in his work, conduct and thought.

No wonder every nation spends crores of rupees for their education and proper development. The future of every nation depends on their students.

The primary duty of a student is to learn and acquire knowledge.

Their main duty consists of improving their intellect and widening their mental capabilities.
There are much duty and responsibility of a student. The first and foremost duty of a student is to acquire knowledge. But, he must not confine himself to the prescribed books only. He must read newspaper, magazines, nobles, dramas during his leisure. This kind of reading will widen their mental horizon and enable them to be acquainted with many things of the world. Moreover, he should follow some rules and regulations. He should not waste valuable time. He should attend to his class regularly. We know that good health is the key to success. To be successful in life, a student must take care of his health. To keep his body fit, he should take regular physical exercise. Because, without taking physical exercise, a student cannot lead a healthy and comfortable life.

Unfortunately, many students forget this goal and spend their school days uselessly enjoying and idling away their time. Only later they realise the result of their folly.

But then it is too late. School is the platform wherein students learn the good traits of life such as, discipline, obedience, dutifulness, diligence, respect to elders, honesty, patriotism, etc.

The foremost duty of a good student is to study and work hard. An ideal student also manages playing with the study to stay healthy and fit. He goes to school daily and always remains punctual. He takes all his lessons quietly. He is the obedient student who respects teachers and elders. He is also good with his class fellows and his juniors.

School provides numerous opportunities for the development of these qualities. It is the duty of every student to acquire these fine qualities of life which will enable him/ her to stand in good stead in the future.
The purpose of education is to produce ideal persons to face the responsibilities of the future. This aim can be achieved only when the students are sincere and they acquire the education in the real sense. Just copying a few questions and passing the examination is not an education. A student can never be educated until and unless he does not put his heart and soul to the cause of education. A student is a person, who devotes himself to the pursuits of knowledge and learning. It is therefore, the first and foremost duty of an ideal student to seek knowledge. The pursuit of knowledge demands hard work and full devotion
The ideal student enriches himself with knowledge. In practical life only those students come out with best colors, who had acquired knowledge.

Another important duty of the students is to prepare them for the career they want to pursue.

Following instructions is an important skill for a student to master. A competent student knows that following directions helps favor him in the eyes of the teacher. Students who follow directions have more time to work instead of asking pointless questions or disrupting class. Listening to and following directions can prevent confusion, which is why a good student should listen to any and all orders given before beginning the work being assigned.

It is in school life that the future career takes roots. During school life, one becomes aware of one’s abilities, limitations and the different professions available. Therefore, during this stage they should make up their mind as to what they should become in life.
Student life is a temporary period of man’s life but it is of vital importance. It Is the time when the seed of future prosperity and happiness is to be sown. As he will sow at this stage of life, so will be reap in this later life. Therefore, an ideal student is to cultivate all the good qualities of a man during this time in order to built a happy and proerous life. The first duty of an ideal student is to study. Learning with an ideal student is a “jeaIous mistress”, as Mr. Haldane points out. The students constitute a class by themselves. Great responsibilities lie on them. His parents need not goad him. He takes up his studies with all seriousness. He does not allow any other activity to disturb or to distract him.

School life is the right time to make proper choice of one’s career.

Students are the guardians of society. It is their duty to fight against all evils existing in the society. They have tremendous responsibility to see that injustice, inequality, oppression, exploitation, corruption, criminalisation of politics, communalism, casteism, misuse of public money, etc.

A good student can have many qualities. They can be polite and attentive, responsible and intelligent, and can take pride in their work while being humble at the same time. However, to be a great student, one must have competent work habits in order to obtain the grades required to be considered a good student. In order to have work habits, one must follow all directions so as to know how to complete the assignments given. A positive attitude helps better receptiveness of the brain and can help improve student-teacher relations. It is always better to have a teacher who is pleased with her students than to have a teacher who cannot stand the sight of her class.

Students also have a great responsibility to help out the less fortunate members of the society by way of social work. They can offer great services by teaching illiterate children of nearby villages, building houses for the poor people of the locality, undertaking cleaning drives, creating public awareness on various social issues, etc.

A student should not engage himself in his/her own work. He has also some duties and responsibilities to the people of the society. We know that most of the people of our country are poor and illiterate. A student can teach the illiterate people. He can help the villagers to change their poor condition. He can teach them about family planning, health, nutrition, children rising and scientific method of cultivation etc. During natural calamities, people need help. In time of flood, famine, cyclone, earthquake and epidemic students should come forward to help the affected people. They should collect food, clothes, medicine etc. and distribute them amongst the affected people. A student should respect his parents and teachers. He should be well behaved, punctual and disciplined in every sphere of life. He must abide by the rules and regulations of his institution. He must be gentle and amiable. He must also avoid evil company. He must be honest in life. Without honesty, any kind of succeed is not possible at all. A student must be truthful also. Because, truthfulness is the key to all succeed.


Students can also render valuable services to the nation at the time of calamities such as, earthquakes, floods, severe drought and accidents. Students ought to take leadership in organising quick rescue work.

Work habits are essential for a student to succeed. A student must be organized in order to handle the many papers he or she receives throughout the day. A student must also store assignments in a place where they are easily found. If a student is not organized, it will be hard for them to find papers to be completed or turned in and the student will be penalized for late or missing work. Good work habits also include eliminating procrastination and replacing the bad habit with diligence and time management. A student must also be punctual in submitting assignments when they are due. Quick, thorough completion, organization, and diligence all are excellent habits that increase the productivity of a student. A good student will realize this and will utilize his or her good work habits to his or her advantage.

In fact, student organisations such as, N.C.C. and scout troops have rendered praiseworthy services to the nations at the time of national emergencies in the past and I am sure they will continue to do so in the years to come.

Thus, students can render valuable services to the cause of the nation.

Student life is the best period of a man’s life. It is the most impotent time of life. It is called the sowing season of life. During this period, a student must cultivate some good qualities for bright future. The future of a person depends much on the student period because in this period a person’s future is created. Actually, the succeed and failure in man’s life depends much on the utilization of this period.

They can play a vital role in wiping out the various ills which throttle national progress and development and thereby set the nation on its rail. They are the true assets of a nation. It all depends on how we trim and tune these God-given resources to the benefit of the nation.
Students are the future hopes of any country. Much development and progress of the country depends upon them. Students are the backbone of a nation.
